i thought i might start a discussion about spiritualism, because many people have the wrong idea about a medium, the job of a medium is to prove survival after death, and not forecast the future which many people believe that is what a medium job is to do.

thanks for pointing this out rajah. the mediums job is to be a channel for spirit, proving life eternal. as one medium said 'you cant die for the life of you'

Is this the point where I am supposed to reveal that my aunt used to be a medium?

Now she's an extra-large. ;)

:D Damian LOL

I know someone that is a medium, she is a very gifted lady.

Indeed, a fortune teller supposedly tells the fortune, not a medium ;)

some people call me a medium, but I've never been sure what I am, my main way of working is as a remote viewer.... in other words I sit here in somerset and scan the spirits in other peoples homes... so I pick up on family members on the other side or past residence of the house or sometimes things and people who predate the house in question.

Well, I don't call myself a medium or anything like that, but I have described people and places I've never seen before to people who have, without them telling me anything first. It doesn't happen often and I have no control over it, but it's funky fun when it happens. (No, I can't do anything to do with Lotto numbers.)

damian if you are intrested you have what is known as prerecognition

Prerecognition (noun) : The feeling of having remembered something or someone that one has actually not been exposed or previously introduced to.

No, I don't think that's it. What I experience is not a "feeling", it's not like Deja-vu at all. I actually fully describe a person or location that I have never experienced to someone who has and then find that the description matches their personal experience of that person or place. My descriptions sometimes include details that the other person hadn't even noticed before and had to check on to verify them.

For example, on one occasion I was working with a carpet and vinyl flooring fitter. He had been to a job to measure up and had met the woman who lived their. The following week we were both driving to this woman's house when I started to describe her, the clothing she had worn when he met her, her attitude/personality, the room we were to work in (a kitchen, as it happens) and even the view out of the window. That was the bit which made no sense to my mate as I said I saw what looked like the sea, yet we were driving uphill and away from anywhere that had a sea view and he was sure he hadn't seen any water when he was there. It turned out that on the evening he had measured up the weather conditions and time of day were almost identical to those on the day we arrived to do the job. As afternoon turned to evening a low mist rolled in across the valley below her kitchen window. The mist looked just like water. So all that cannot possible be called a "feeling", it's more like mind-reading. <shrug>

or subconscious remote viewing

Remote viewing may well enable a vague description of an area, but I have never heard of anyone being able to supply the level of detail I can. I've also never heard of a remote viewer being able to describe a person and their personality.

It also doesn't take into account that my description of the location (etc) takes place long after the original event. Unless you know of someone who can both remote view AND travel in time, I still don't think we're anywhere near a proper description.

But how does that work with people who are still alive? We aren't talking about a psychic residue from a "ghost".

Remote Viewing can give a very clear picture of the 'real world' and one might label 'seeing' things as Clairvoyance, as strictly speaking, Clairvoyance means 'distance / clear seeing'.

Alternatively, images seen might come from the minds of those people around you (remember, the human brain subconsciously stores more than the conscisou mind notices or remembers) and so one might call that telepathy of some kind.

It's not always easy 'knowing how you know stuff' to begin with, but diary keeping and practice can lead you to a process that works for you, and then you'll have the right label for the skill / talent I'm sure.

I am a medium and have served in many churches in the South Wales Valleys and given Private sittings.Mediums give proof of life after death and can help people by giving messages from loved ones.I am not working in churches at the moment as I have recently moved house but I can assure you that I have been called on by Sprit to work in many different situations.

my daughter kept having things move in her house and we would all hear footsteps and knockings and if you sat in one chair it felt like you were in a cold wind.only i felt cold in it.but i was compelled to look for help in the yellow pages and felt that we should ring the spiritulist church.not the local one but the next town.when we got through felt a bit silly but told the lady all about it.turned out that the medium had a message for a sarah with a son called aaron(daughter and grandson) from a harry.thats all she got all evening and nothing for anybody else.harry was a friend of ny daughters that died.the medium came to daughters house and said harry does not want you to go to france as you wont come back.she was planning on going so quickly cancelled.Things like that have happened all my life.but have never wanted to develope it as when it happens its a bit scary.more so when you look at someone and know something about them without asking.so i walk away from it.does that make sense.

yes dexter that makes complete sense, your daughter friend was trying to warn her, and you are a very sentative person to be able to pick up people whom you meet and walk away from, you are listening to your gut feeling which we call intution.

That just brings up to mind something that happens to me at times too. It's like being able to see through another person's eyes ...or sometimes just like a flash of what has been going through their minds...like a playback of their memory. I always believe that we are all connected, more so than we know...and that explanation has always been enough for me. lol
Sorry, I know this is an old thread but I just got around to reading it. :D
Wanted to add that more often than not, I have got these connections when chatting with friends or others online. So it's not neccessary to actually be close to others to pick up on what is going on for them or in their minds. I think it boils down to energy and when you are in front of a computer, your energy still comes through. I might be wrong, but it sounds good enough for me thus far. lol

I don't consider myself to be a 'Medium' though I do have a very strong sense of things around me. I know for a fact that we have a spirit in our house. My husband has seen her several times and I have caught a glimpse and sensed her.
Both my girls are 'sensatives' They've experienced strong feelings aboout things before they happen.
I truly believe in an afterlife.
