Coin/Banknote Collectors & Sellers On The Ebid Zone

  1. poppa501
Well, here I am wandering around the forums at 3am. Not a lot of activity at this time. Since I can't sleep, I thought I would pick everyone's brain on a couple of things:
    (A) If you had to dispose of all your coins except one, what would that one be and why?

    (B) If money was no object--what coin/coins would you buy. Again why?

    My answers:
    (A) My 2006 gold Buffalo proof. Not because its the most expensive(its not) but because I've been collecting for almost 50 years and I never had the funds to buy a gold anything! After scrimping and saving for years to buy that coin, I'm not about to let it go--even if the price of gold goes to $10.00 an ounce!

    (B) I would buy the nicest '09 VDB Lincoln cent I could possibly find. Then I would feel that my Lincoln Cent collection would be complete. No I don't have a "22 plain or a "55 double die, but I feel these are error coins, not regular production runs.

OK guys--the balls in your court. Whatca gonna do?

I'd buy the complete pre-flat pack (bown envelope) silver proof sets 1954 & earlier, that are unopened & in absolute pristine condition. The ones that came in boxes.

I'd also buy the complete sets of all the US American Eagle Gold & Platinum Proof Sets in absolute pristine condition for each denomination & the 4-coin sets.

    How's that for dreaming?

burgyeb you slay me! That is some dreaming! However, you didn't answer question A. Don't want to think about that? Oh by the way--Check out my post in the Coins and Banknotes forum and tell me what you think. That's a really strange Lincoln cent. Thanks for the reply.

    Ok poppa501:
For A I would have to say my 2006 Buffalo gold 1oz. proof, because it's the only gold coin I have right now. I sold alot of gold & platinum coins before coming to ebid & I haven't tried to replace them yet. Even sold alot of 4 coin gold bullion sets. I hated doing that but I needed the cash & I always got top dollar so it was like liquid money. But the truth of the matter is I really would not want to part with my 1999 thru 2007/2008/?...... US Proof Sets With State Quarters (Clad) that I'm currently collecting. Those are actually my favorites. I also like the complete US Proof Set Runs From 1955 thru current.........
I'll try to check out your post in Coins and Banknotes Forum; you have me wondering about that strange Lincoln cent. ~Burgyeb~

Question? Does anyone know about the grading of Morgan Dollars using terminology "VAM....."? Is it a ploy to obtain higher dollar from buyers?

It stands for Van Allen and Mallis, two gentlemen who cataloged various varieties of Morgan and Peace dollars. They are real, and some are QUITE rare, but as with ANY type of goods, scammers and shysters will try to sell you a bill of goods. In my opinion it goes hand-in-hand with You Get What You Pay For and TANSTAAFL. Check out http://www.vamworld.com -- it's a very good page if you're interested in VAMs.

Thanks Im5403; I'm going to check out the website. I purchased a "VAM"; treated like it was any other Morgan & got it for a good price. Somehow I got the impression the seller was just trying to jack up the bids. But I would be interested in learning more about it, as I do like quality coins.

Did you get it raw or slabbed? What VAM is it? How about a picture?

    Hi Im5403:
The coin is not slabbed; it is 1921 MSD BU "VAM 1W R-6"
Took some pictures, but do not know how to add them here.

If it looks like the one on this page it might be the real deal: http://www.vamworld.com/1921-D+VAM-1...5c47f66c6f2dc5. Nothing on Teletrade, nothing on Heritage, so I bit the bullet and searched on feebay, only saw one that went for $41, advertised as UNC but I don't think so: http://cgi.ebay.com/1921-D-Vam-1W-Di...d=p3286.c0.m14.
