Anyone else had these issues with Norton?
I am helping Mum sort her computer out. Before I continue, while I personally swear by using free version AVG and Malwarebytes on my PC, Mum prefers to pay for Norton on her PC, which is her choice although she has to listen to my opinions on the subject every time as I have to pay on my card for the Norton, although she pays me back.
- For the past few years I have noticed that her PC is running increasingly slow, and it seems to get worse with each update of Norton. Has anyone else noticed this on thier PCs?
- Yesterday she got Norton 2012, the computer wold barely load, and she couldnt get online at all using internet explorer (though she is now fine since I put Firefox on her computer, after much persuasion, instead). Do you reckon the download of Norton 2012 was the cause of IE no longer working at all (as opposed to being slow and clunky).

Yes. Which is why I dumped the bloatware that is Norton years ago.

Me too!
I was warned off norton many years ago by an IT pro.
According to him....it creates so many serious conflicts with other software....that it's simply not worth having.

thanks guys, I suspected as much. Just wanted to check it wasnt Mums PC being odd.
I will continue to sing the praises of nice free AVG and Malwarebytes!
Re: Anyone else had these issues with Norton?
I refuse to ever use Norton again. Not only is it a system hog, in many ways it acts like a virus.
Incidentally, getting rid of it won't be easy either. I had to have my whole system wiped and rebuilt to remove all the garbage that the Uninstall couldn't find. If you go that route, make sure ALL your mother's data files are backed up first on a CD or flash drive!
Re: Anyone else had these issues with Norton?
I run one of my PCs on Linux so malware is not one of the things I worry about there!
In the days when I used Norton I had endless problems and it slowed my PC down, and some others did too, but not AVG.
I am more concerned with backing up these days and I save onto an external 1 Tb drive so I can reboot and reinstall if anything goes wrong.
