YDC 186 Pimp Your Auction
The winner of the September YDC 185 was liverdodo with this Halloween little dog costume for ‘You Raise Me Up’ in Eastbourne
liverdodo has chosen to support 190th Girl Guides Liverpool and Jack Russell Terrier Rescue UK in October for the YDC 186 which runs from 24th - 28th October 2020
- Choose a charity or good cause to support with the money you raise. You may support any cause you wish.
- List your item in the Your Donation Counts sub-category of the Charity Auctions category on eBid.net.
- IncludeYDC nnn (the number of the current YDC) and your cause in the auction title and description.
- Maximize YDC visibility by offering your item to as many international destinations as possible. Please do not charge more than cost for shipping or postage.
- Run your listing from the 24th to the 28th of the month.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Competition Rules Here
- Choose an item with an expected value of less than £20.00 (or local equivalent). Higher value items are still welcome in YDC but will not be considered competition entries.
- Start your auctions at 99p or less (or local equivalent).
- Be sure your auction does not use Reserves, Buy Now prices or listing enhancements (eg Featured, etc).
- Make sure your end time on the 28th matches your start time on the 24th, so that your auction runs for exactly four days.
- Add the following text to your auction(s) description:
This auction is an entry in the YDC competition. All money raised by this auction will go to insert charity name here.
General Tips
Make sure your titles are searchable to allow for bidders from outside of the forum to find your auctions . For example, the world ‘chocklit’ is fine to be used in the auction description but it’s unlikely that bidders from outside the forum will spell ‘chocolate’ this way. So novelty spellings are best left for the descriptions.
To make sure that your YDC auctions show up when people search for ‘YDC’ it helps if you leave a space between ‘YDC’ and the numbers that follow. If you don’t leave a gap then your auction won’t show up in a general eBid search unless it includes ‘YDC*’ as a term.
Auctions without a gap will need to be searched by category otherwise and not everyone does that.

Just an fyi.....I did a quick search for YDC, as that's what we all call it, and how a newbie might look for it, and only two items showed up. I DO know to put a * after it to fill in the changing number sequence, but a lot of people may not realize that. I suspect an extremely small number of people would include an actual number. And some people wouldn't think of looking in categories. Am I being too pedantic? I know mostly it's the same group that lists and bids, so maybe this issue is all in my nearly empty mind.

I think you have a very good point your majesty. What would be good if possible is for the boys to feature YDC listings in rotation on the front page for the duration of the 4 days. After all it helps to bring in some money for them and also for many worthwhile charities.

I added this note to the general stuff for the YDC this time after this issue was raised recently
I know that YDC186 looks tidier to some but it's down to the sellers to market all their auctions and make them searchable.

I'm not convinced it should be down to eBid to change things since we as sellers should make changes if we want to make sales
There is a thread for suggestions HERE
