Hi Simon,
Have you tried bulk editing using the export listings function?

Hi Simon,
Have you tried bulk editing using the export listings function?
There is a really easy way to add information to all your auctions at once, but it requires forward planning.
To get an image to show in your auctions you need to tell the browser software where the image is. These instructions are included in the HTML code of your auction. The software doesn't care what the image contains, just that it can be found and displayed.
So, in all new auctions include a blank image which is either located on your website or in your gallery. Then alter it when you are ready and use it to display your message/s.
In this way you can change your message across all your auctions in one go. Unlike with the My Notices function, you can use different fonts, colours and text sizes, as well as graphics, to make your message more attractive and readable.
- Use a graphics package to create a small, transparent image.
- Store that image somewhere on the web - either in your eBid gallery or your own website.
- Include the code to display the image in every auction. Although it will display, no one will see it because it is transparent.
- When you are ready, create a new image which contains your message. Save it in the same place, with the same name as the transparent image, so that it over-writes and replaces it.
- Your auctions will now display the updated image which contains your message.
If you want to remove the text, just replace the image with a transparent one. Just make sure that your HTML source does not state the size of the image, only the location, or it will restrict what you can or can't show using this technique.
I used this technique to display the Summer Solstice to Blue Moon Logo recently.
Hi Corinne,
I haven't got to grips with that yet  . I'm not sure about lots of aspects of the way it works. (Humour me here please :o )
I can 'export', and then I open the *.txt file in Microsoft Works Spreadsheet. Not sure if this is causing the problems that I run into, or if I need to get Excell. (Microsoft Works Spreadsheet seems to work the same in most aspects, I'm told, but let me know if anyone knows different).
Okay, now in the Spreadsheet, all the Columns look alright (when comparing them to the example given in eBid's Bulk Uploader), until I get to the HTML for the description (Column 'V').
This is where things really seem up-the-creek for me. When I click Column 'V', only part of the description seems to be there. In fact if I copy the HTML there, into an HTML editor, I'm only getting about one third of the description HTML.
I've tried 'working things backwards', by copying the HTML direct from TurboLister (where my feepay HTML is stored), into Column 'V', but then all the HTML runs downwards, rather than across. (In the HTML in TurboLister, the code has lots of double-spacing, and lines of code that are quite short). I'm wondering if it would copy to the Spreadsheet correctly (without truncating), if I removed all the 'spare' spaces and blank lines.
I will have to experiment a bit, but if I could get it to work in the Spreadsheet, I should be able to 'find and replace' HTML code fairly quickly, and then just upload, using the Bulk Lister.
Sorry to be so complex  . (Especially on a Monday!).
Hi Damian,
That's a very clever idea! Will bear it in mind for the future. I suppose you could even leave two areas, of approximately 'banner-size' (but not too high), located at top and foot of a listing, and then you could choose location, (depending on importance of the 'new' information), and use either the top or foot.
Thanks again, Simon.
Hi Simon,
I'm afraid I really don't know a thing about Microsoft Works Spreadsheet. I use Excel. I'm sure someone with the knowledge will come along soon. :)
Thanks Corinne. :)
I think the problem is to do with me not being able to fit the entire HTML for my 'description' into one box on the Spreadsheet. It just seems to automatically flow into other boxes. Spreadsheets have never been my strongpoint :o , so I tend to use them as little as possible, but if it would speed-up updates to my listings, it would certainly be worth working on it.
Simon.
Well I have tried to do this 3 times so far and I have changed all the headings - moved the columns etc to try and make it 'acceptable' but each time I get an email saying it hasn't worked!
I am going to try and list one by one to see if I can work out what they want!
I am using excel too. It says they except it???
Hello nykmedia, thanks for putting me in second position in the list. I see that I was actually joint second with yourself!
Maybe I'll get to number one in August, I shall do my best. It's going well so far, four sales tonight alone. In addition, when I checked my buddy points account, I discovered that I'd gained another point. For the first time ever I'm on the front page table.
