Thread: Doing my Bit!

  1. #1

    Default Doing my Bit!

Managed to distribute 50 flyers promoting eBid this morning at an antiques fair.

Most handed to stallholders and interested buyers, explaining that eBid is now a splendid place to look for bargains as loads of fed-up people moving off feebay.

One thing that interested sellers was that there is NO reserve minimum - they all have had big issues with feebay's £50 minimum - and most were astonished at eBid's maximum 3% FVF..

Buyers were surprised that they hadn't heard of it before and most pledged to go and look.

I answered a lot of questions about fees, visibility, stores etc - the majority of people were agreeably surprised, and promised to tell others about eBid whenever they could.
Why not take a quick look at my Stores?

Well done, if we could all manage to do that then Ebid would really take off.

This last Saturday I went to a garage sale (didn't buy anything). They had maybe 100 brand new garments on a rack for sale, that came from somebody's embroidery shop. I asked them if they had considered listing them in an online auction and they said no. They said they did sell other things on eBoy so i gave them a little repetitive lesson on eBid.net, stressing NET not com at least 3 times. I am a big believer in repetition and i think it sunk in. Hope they investigate and join.

EDIT: that reminds me. I wished at that time i had some business cards to hand out but I don't. I should make some up today!

Not long after T'bar start (and before I got banned for mentioning their fees before they announced them), I went along to a PC World carpark, and left promotional leaflets in all the cars windscreens there. Figured that PC World was the obvious place to do it!

Well done for getting the fliers out there! I don't do any face-to-face selling, so have to do my marketing to my customers. I already put ebid stickers on every package that goes out, wherever it was bought. But I think I might start putting in some sort of discount voucher too. Just need to think through what the offer can be! I think some sort of "buy this many, get cheapest free" deal.

I like the flyers handout idea. Wonder if I could get a decal made up for the car? Apart from that, I've cleared any other links to ebay & etsy from my website and added a link to ebid instead. I'm going to send out an email blast after the holidays have finished to my subscribers too. Not much I know, but every little helps. I know it may be slow but I'm happy to stick with it.

Oh, and I've added my website to my signature - if it's not allowed just tell me and I'll remove it pronto!

#6 - you have to be careful about leafletting cars - it comes under the 'flyposting' rules - if caught you could be fined up to £1000 per leaflet (trust me - I know this one!)
    - If you stand outside Tesco and hand out leaflets, they are allowed to escort you off their land, and/or report you for littering - you could ask their permission, but they only give it to charities, and then when THEY like, not you! (same with most supermarket chains)
I target small events - ask the proprietor if they would mind you giving a few leaflets and what they are, and personally hand them to people - that is not then an offence of any kind (unless of course it's a 'Community or Village Hall, and it's constitution specifically prohibits it.!) They might also accept a small pile on the table where they take the money - for folks to pick up.

I have to resort to all kinds of tactics to advertise my Antiques fairs, as the newspaper ads are a terrible price, and A6 flyers are the most cost-effective way to do it!.

Well done. I always have a bundle of little info sheets about ebid in my handbag. It's surprising how many I manage to hand over in everyday conversations!!

    Thats great work well done.

sorry I do'nt get to fairs or carboots but I do have it on my website

It would be great if everyone who has there own website gets eBid on there
I joined the link program http://uk.ebid.net/help_affiliate.php

It must be very difficult for members who are selling on eBid and ebaaa who do
you choose to advertise on your own website?

No matter what I will still choose eBid
