Which would mean to get to a Batman level sort the acceptable format you would be looking at:

    Golden>Publisher>Character=Batman

So all the characters need to be broken down for you by publisher within each age category.
When the list is properly formatted you will be able to act on it. Am I correct in this statement Gazza?

    Dear Gazza,
This in response to your writing "Our US comics are categorised by Age > Publisher > Character. On your list you have Publisher and Character on the same level which would mean 2 places a comic could be placed ..
    eg.
    Golden > Publisher > DC
    Golden > Character > Batman"
We are happy to add more publishers and characters but they will have to be in the format Age > Publisher > Character"

I do have the most positive of intentions in helping you and do not wish to appear negative. However I must explain why I believe a concentration on "Publisher" is ill-advised. Especially for Golden Age comics. Here are some reasons.

    - First, the fact that comics "could" be listed in multiple places will always be true - even across the limited categories you have so far. This is not a problem.

    - In fact, eBay has proven the ability to list in multiple places is a benefit. That's probably why they allow it. It provides easily findable havens for the many comic sellers who are not collectors at all, but who are disposing of unwanted family comics. They won't understand "Publisher."

    - This idea will result in displaying unexpanded Publisher names in your left-sidebar index of categories. These will hide the famous character categories beneath them!

    - In other words, this idea unnecessarily pushes the superhero categories "down" one more level, where knowledge of the Publisher will be necessary to display them.

    - Since you can only list items in a low-level category, it removes the possibility of having any destination category for a Publisher, unless that Publisher has no superhero. Confusing.

    - Most harmful to your success would be if you used this emphasis on Publisher to forego adopting the heavily used genre categories such as "Western," "Romance,' SciFi/Horror," "Crime," "War," "Funny Animal," and the like. Many collectors collect (and buy) only within a genre. These categories are essential.

    - Finally, the absence of a "Superhero" category - probably the most widely used on eBay - will dumbfound newcomers.

All that said, I really do not want to be negative! Just helpful. So, I have recast my Golden Age category suggestions (below) precisely the way you want them. I leave it to others to submit corrected categories for the other comic Ages.

You will suffer all the disadvantages I cited. But it will still be better than what you have today. I have retained the all-important "genre" categories. They are critical. Please adopt them all for Golden Age. Thank you. Joe K.
