Thread: Avatar Question for a Non-Techie

  1. #1

Default Avatar Question for a Non-Techie

Advice please! I'm trying to change my avatar picture but when I adjust my new picture to the required 150 x 150 pixels it comes out all blurry. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

What is the size in pixels of the original image?

Next question, How are you trying to reduce the image to the required size?

Sounds like you're either trying to go from huge to small in too few steps, or using software that's not sophisticated enough to make a good job of it.

The original is 875 wide x 1460 height. I have software which came with my camera and usually just have to click "adjust size" and enter the new size measurements I want.

    What Quad said.
Which is where I was going in very small steps.

If you have vista, then if you use the snipping tool on the image it decreases the size for some strange reason

The software package that is bundled with most cameras is a budget package to give you a taste of what is possible. The company will then try to sell you a full feature version with more bells and whistles.
Quite often you can find freeware or shareware on the net that will work quite well. Barring that, an older version of a popular software package will quite often fill the bill if you do not need "cutting edge" features. These used software packages are sometimes offered for sale on AUCTION SITES as power users upgrade to the latest versions. If you ask here people can advise you on specific programs and where to find them on the net.
