As I approached the 'retirement age' I made sure I didn't owe a red cent on anything, home included. I didn't owe that much to begin with so it wasn't that hard, but the economy is getting so bad over here in US I'm almost considering stocking up on non-perishable food stuffs.

Times that by 3 and add some more on top, then you will nearly be there

I'm trying hard to clear all my debts and I am listing my 'Good quality items' like mad on here (when the site works)
to help clear of some of my debts, but all I need now are some customers and lots of them, hint hint

I owe nowt. Was brought up the old fashioned way! If I can't afford it I don't buy it. If I've wanted something really bad I save up for it. If I can't afford a holiday that year I don't go. Never had an overdraft, HP, credit, or credit card, and always done low paid work so I ain't rich trust me!

I once had a mortgage a few years ago, but saw that all was not well on the financial horizen and sold up. Best thing I did too, a few months before the economy got into trouble - phew! Mortgage was like a ball and chain around my neck , so definately don't miss it.

Neither a lender or borrower be. If you can help it anyway

Thanks to the ''mate'' that ripped me off for £35,000, THEN caused my house to be repossessed (which they resold for £32,000 less than my mortgage), THEN committed suicide (good move on his part), I know for a fact that I will not be solvent again.

Even found out after his funeral (which I was not allowed to attend) that he had gambled my 35k on the horses.
