Question Using eBid RSS feed in a web page...

Does anybody use the eBid RSS feed to display their sale items in a page on their website?

I'm trying to do it but it doesn't look right. Am I trying to use the feed for something it was not intended for?

    Draft page at: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/astral....t/ebid_rss.htm

Hello. It looked fine to me. I was able to scroll through your listings. I've been "test driving" some powerful software the last couple of hours. Working on my java also. Geesh I've so much to learn.

I have the feeds on my site and they work fine. I know youngest had to do some tweaking around to get them to work properly when they were first introduced.

Yours look like what I was hoping to get somewhere near achieving but mine looks nothing like that. You seem to be preprocessing the feed in some way via the read_rss function before display. How is that done? I don't have access to any server side stuff if that is needed as all I have is the webspace provided by my ISP.

What I don't like about mine is:
    • Shows the same item more than once.
    • Shows Server Busy messages from eBid.
    • Has that search/sort box top right (though I could live with that at a push).
    • Has the View feed properties link.
    • I can't set the background to the usual colour for the site.
Any tips would be much appreciated. I don't think I would use mine as is.

Last night was the first time I ever looked at an RSS feed so don't assume any prior knowledge on the subject.

The rss uses a php based server side script to parse the rss into html and then the read_rss javascript function uses ajax to call the php function and get the rss, that way the pages dont take ages to load if ebid is running a little slow. I so plan on changing it to completely javascript based soon as javascript can handle loading xml and parsing it and as its a client side scipting language it'll mean less work for the server. Once i have got the code done i can post it up if you like, it should work on any host as javascript.

    Wizbooks son.

    Yes, please.

I have got a vanilla dump of the feed working, but it's not pretty. It's one of those areas I keep meaning to read up on, and have never got round to. I'm always happy to borrow other people's hard work!

It's not work to him it's what he lives for.
When we first moved up here he stayed with his brother and refused to come up until the broadband was in.
