Thread: Would you miss the 1p?

Default Would you miss the 1p?

Britain's shoppers could soon be waving goodbye to the 99p bargain as a change in our spending habits heralds the death of the one penny coin. Stores have finally given up trying to convince customers that items are cheaper by ending prices with a 99p.
What do you think? Would you miss the 1p?

That isn't the reason for the 99p prices.

The 99p prices were to stop dishonest shop workers from pocketing the money handed over as they would have to open the till to get the penny change

Hi Craig , I have said yes....and the main reason is the FACT that since we went decimal....we have been robbed of a lot of money....it was started by going for the 100 to the £....it should have been to the 10 shilling...we lost the half pence ( new ) that was an other kick in pocket / purse.....if we were to loose the 1p it would mean millions going out of the publics pocket......so if we were to get the chance of a proper vote.....tell them where to go....and tell them with FEELING ..... papa.

    I would miss the 1p

But I have always wondered why we don't have a 99p

Although I think Moonwitch has answered that for me

It would take a bit longer to fill up the jar in the cupboard if the 1p went!

I don't know about the UK, but the practice of pricing items at 99¢ or $9.99 or just under the next whole dollar is a psychological thing. Just as is supermarkets placing staples on different aisles to make shoppers walk past their other merchandise to find what they need. Or the use of music to slow your pace while shopping in a department store. They're all psychological gimmicks used to control behavior.
