We have a new neighbour

A tawny owl just paid us a visit, right next to my door (keep the door open with a fly screen on it). They are very loud!

Caught me by surprise.

No owls around here (that I'm aware of anyhow) though there is a certain small opossum who frequently visits the catfood dish.

LOL! Plenty of those here, though we try not to disturb each other. Put a cricket back outdoors the other night after it jumped into the coffee, poor thing, though it certainly hopped away fast enough.

I saw a small owl in the trees round here in the middle of the afternoon a few weeks ago. It was the alarm calls of the smaller birds that made me notice it.

I didn't realise owls spooked other birds so much, but haven't seen it since.

We have a family of Barn Owls next door, in their old sheds probably. I will never forget the evening I saw the youngsters lined up on the neighbours gate, while I walked by.

I have heard the Tawny in the distance once before, but it was nice to hear so close up.

Hey, you sound like my son. He has a high tolerance for all sorts of critters, and they really seem to like him. Dogs adore him. He used to own all sorts of animals including scorpions, frogs, lizards, geckos. The gecko or hampster would get out of the tank about same time (2 am), crawl up on his shoulders & lick his face.


My philosophy concerning critters is that they pay no bills; they enter my premises at their own risk.
