The typewriter ribbon going to Australia couldn't go as an airmail letter, but had to go as airmail packet. Instead of £2.48 it cost £3.50 to send. Anything with a bump is not classed as a letter but a packet, so beware!

At least the ribbon was going to someone who wanted it, and there were pretty stamps on the envelope.
How long has a typewriter ribbon been classed as a letter?

I'm afraid my motto is now:if in doubt charge the higher price. I'd rather make a refund

In the US, anything over 1/4" thick ... I think that would .64 cm is considered a package.

The rules seem to be applied differently by the PO staff. The ladies in my local office are brilliant and charge me letter rate for my padded envelopes which would be large letter in the UK .... 2 or 3 miles down the road and they charge my friend packet rate, even for a coin!

In the UK you can send items as a large letter as long as you do not exceed the max depth of 25mm (2.50cm) including packaging materials. Airmail will no doubt be different but I have never seen Royal Mail publish any size restrictions on what constitues Airmail Letters or Small Packets which is ironic given that royal mail want to force me to send a small 12x9x9 box within the UK as a medium parcel yet allow me to send it as a Small Packet airmail which proves royal mail know that a 12x9x9 inch box is in fact a small parcel but because it is the most commonly used size box by businesses they are forcing us to send it as a medium parcel to increase their profits.

I am sorry to hear you are having to close your listings. I have tried a couple of different places to sell. One being the selling page on Facebook. You can sell locally if you do not mind people coming to your home. Another is gum tree although I believe this belongs to Ebay. There is another site called preloved where you can advertise personal items for free. In regards to face book I sold a Hello Kitty for the price I requested, also a Phrenology head and hand. There were no fees. The Hello Kitty I delivered and the other Items I sold to somebody I used to work with. I am trying to find a different parcel distributor than Royal Mail but want one where I do not have to print anything for them as I do not have a printer attached to this laptop. I would prefer so sell on here but do not seem to have much luck.
