    Default who is mad here?

Depending on the post office I visit (depending where I am on what day) postage prices appear to be different.

For example one parcel I sent the other day on the RM website... the weight meant it should have been around £7or a tad over, but at the post office, but I was told it cost almost £10 when I took it to send and asked for the speific service.

Even small items seem to vary when its something more than a first or second class stamp.

Has anyone else encountered this? Or does someone have thier weighing scales out of kilter and I should be moaning at management?

Hi, if you are weighing items at home then there may be a difference between that weight and the PO scales as most home scales are not calibrated to the same degree of accuracy and a few grammes difference can mean the difference between one price band and the next. There should not be a difference in weights shown on the scales in different post offices; if a parcel weighs 65gms in your local PO then it should come out the same in any other PO.

My suggestion would be to do a test; weigh something at home and then at two different POs. If the PO scales are different to one another then raise the matter with the management or with Trading Standards.

I hear constant stories of inconsistencies. It's generally a combination of inaccurate scales, and lack of knowledge on the part of the counter staff - given how wonderfully complex the options are now, it's not too surprising they haven't mastered every permutation!

One of my items goes as a Large Letter at my regular PO but the one in the local shopping centre insisted its the dearer Small Packet rate. I am sure the b***h held it at a slight angle when trying it through the slot in the sizing tool. I just don't go to that PO any more.
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else
