yes Ubuntu is not for numpties.

I don't know why those linux evangelists keep banging on about it, its hardly in the race and is just a nuisance really.

We are in a Windows / Apple / Android world.

Keep unix for the back office.

actually , ubuntu is just as easy to learn as windows is, and windows has lost alot of ground to it recently, recent surveys found that windows 7 users found ubuntu easier to use than windows 8.

Totally agree with your entire post.

When choosing a smartphone I specifically chose an Android because I knew that was Linux.

Don't forget Microsoft has lots of testers.

I think its just like anything new, it takes a while to get used to.

Its just they are a bit ahead of themselves with touch screens etc.

I think they just need to make it easier to use with a mouse and keyboard.

My daughter used a touch screen computer at school back in the 90's...it's not a particularly new innovation in IT terms

Windows 8 is good if your laptop is a touchscreen, it is designed like a big tablet, i put a couple of apps on mine which adds the start button to the desktop & one that bypasses the app start screen & boots straight to desktop.

Give it a whirl and if it's still too annoying after a while, download Classic Shell, you can then recreate (more or less) Windows 7 on a Windows 8 PC.

Android was Linux. A sort of illigitimate offspring.

And Linux (or at least one version of it) was the lovechild of Minix, with a smattering of genes from Plan 9, AIX, IRIX, Mach 4 & BSD Lite.

I have an iMac and OS 10.8 Mountain Lion I wouldn't change if Mr Gates gave me all his money. I do have to use Windows on rare occasions, then I use Windows 7 Pro 64 on advice from an expert.

Good idea. I switched to 7, it's much like XP with very little to learn and I love it!
