Thread: Store Web address and Buddy Links

Lightbulb Store Web address and Buddy Links

    Hi

Would it be possible to have a shorter store address? If printing business cards and promotional material etc it is a long name to type in and I think people would be more likely to type in the address to check it out if the address was shorter. eg mine is http://uk.four.ebid.net/stores/ToyCrazy - couldn't we have something shorter and more easy to remember like www.ebidstores.net/ToyCrazy

Also with the links to recommend new members for buddy points. It is a long link to type in and if it is on printed material, I think people are more likely to just go into the main site than type in your link. Could you have a referral box in the sign up page, so you could type in the referrer's user name instead?

There is a drop down option in the search box to search by seller name, that brings up your profile and also a link to your current listings

    Good morning!

I used a 'tiny URL' available at www.tinyurl.com for my Store URL, because, like you, I didn't want a lengthy URL to put on my eBid Invoices.

The process is free, quick and easy. Both your original URL, and your 'tiny' one are valid, so it doesn't matter which one is used.

My Store URL was/is http://uk.four.ebid.net/perl/main.cg...ters-and-Books (actually even longer than it appears here on the Forum, but the format is truncated).

and my 'tinyURL' is http://tinyurl.com/3a5rtx (so you can see the difference)

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes, Simon / rupert691.

    Hi

    Thanks for the info.

The tinyurl would be useful for printing on acknowledgements to go in the parcels. It would be nice, though if eBid could set up their own version of this so that eBid appears in the url eg www.eBidLink.net/ToyCrazy or www.eBidBuddies/ToyCrazy or something like that.

Well the link to my eBid store is http://uk.ebid.net/stores/Affordable-Art
so that seems reasonably short and memorable.

    Question Domain Registration Company

    Hi
I've just been looking into getting up a domain name for redirecting. Are there any companies you would recommended for setting it up through? I've just tried looking at a few and they have all these extras that they try and get you to buy and I'm not sure if redirection should come as standard.

I just like web addresses to begin with www - if they don't, I have trouble remembering them!

Try www.superwebhost.com that is where I have both my domains registered. I believe they are located in Canada. Nice people to do with.

You could also make the Buddy Point link like this www.toycrazystore.co.uk/join
I've found a domain provider which does redirection, but it will only do from the main site and subdomains, and doesn't offer to redirect web address with a / etc such as www.toycrazystore.co.uk/join (hope I'm making sense!)

do you know where I can register to get selected web pages redirected eg
www.toycrazystore.co.uk/join = to ebid buddy join
www.toycrazystore.co.uk/store = to ebid store (just in case I open up more than one store)

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

    Hi Jimbo

Thanks for that. That's exactly what I'm looking to do, but it looks a lot more complicated than I thought it would be!

Is there any software that I can use to do it? I was hoping to set up a homepage with links on and also have the direct linking if typing in the web address direct.

I have bought the domain www.ebidstores.net and thought it would be good to open it up to other ebidders who don't have their own website so they can have a short link for their promotions and a listing on the home page. If I can get it up and running, I could offer the links as a YDC for the end of this month.
