I think this is a good idea - I would like the charity bit re-organised anyway - so I can list my items both there and in the appropriate normal category (my justpurrfect items, not my business ones)

I've been thinking about this one as well, trouble is, there are thousands of Charities, so, in theory, the list could be endless. BUT hey, why not????

I'm a volunteer fundraiser for my local hospice (u should see me shakin me tins outside Sainsburys pmsl) & I wouldn't mind a sixth free shop just for my listed charity (shy bairns get nowt lol)....

What goes around comes around.....got an idea for free advertising on the hospice website & newsletter & local paper......brain gone into overdrive! bbl

Why not a categories for types of charity?

Seasonal - Children in Need & Comic Relief

Animal - Dogs Trust RSPCA Cats Protection ect

    Children - NSPCC Banardos ect

Pallative Care - Hospices, plus Macmillian Madam Curie ect

Medical - Cancer UK British Heart Foundation ect

Disability - Sense Mind Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs ect

Rescue - RNLI Air Ambulance ect

    Faith - Sally Army ect

Overseas Aid - Oxfam World Vision

There are probably more categories but you get the idea.

Splitting the charities down could be a good idea, the only problem is ones like Children in Need where they could fall into 2 categories. What would be good once we've got a decent amount of listings in here would be to have a charity auction 'homepage' where you have a scroll list of charities and a search for charity by name (including partial matches) or type.

We could promote eBid to charities when they have a special week coming up eg I have just found out that October is breast cancer awareness month. We could contact charities who have these events coming up to tell them about the free listings on eBid and set up additional charities as we see them.

What would also be good would be if each charity had their own 'home page' or 'all about' page where it would show a little bit about them.

Eventually when the charities section is really big, the facility for eBid to auctomatically deduct the price of the item less fees and send to the charity would ensure that buyers can be certain that the money is actually going to the charity.

My brain's going into overdrive now as well!

Toy Crazy, don't go there! that automatic collection of the money is a very difficult area. Ebay have set up their own "charity" to do that and it takes 10%. Fortunately there is an arrangement to be a direct seller and bypass that but I could not afford to donate all the postage on my Cats Protection auctions (on ebay - I could afford what I sell here but here is going to get better, right?). And then there is the branch structure. If you send the money to Head Office, they keep it for central purposes. If there is a central charity financial arrangement on ebid, I would stop listing for charity here if it cost either me or the charity money. I've been selling continuously for charity here and on ebay for longer than almost anyone else in UK, so I really do have experience of the problems.

No Toy Crazy please don't go there re automatic collection, it could harm many of the charities.
The RSPCA for instance expects each area to raise it's own funds I'm sure it's not the only one.
If people want to spend the time listing for a charity they deserve the right to choose whether they raise money for their local branch or nationally. As long as the Charity is clearly defined in the listing, buyer's also get the same right to choose.
