Replace 'the North American audience' with 'humans' and I'd agree. USAns aren't special.

IMO, you're railing at the wrong audience. Tim Berners-Lee (the originator of HTML, British) had this clever idea of making content platform independent. At the time, Microsoft (an enormous USAn commercial entity) dismissed the fledgling Internet as a 'fad,' but rapidly backtracked on that and went all-out to make sure they owned it. In the process, they made a good job of ditching the basic concept of platform independence in favour of trying to make things look pretty.

If you want to blame anyone for the fact that content is less accessible than it should be, blame Mr Gates and his short-sighted money-focused cronies.

    Just my tuppence.

    Interesting viewpoint.

It isn't 'nothing' to those who find living in today's world more and more difficult because of the increasing reliance on a computerised system that is designed for the mythical 'normal,' 'average' person.

It sucks if you've got two left feet and the cobblers only sell shoes in pairs.

A doff of the cap to the 3 witches far and away on the other side of the water. And to all the rest of you lot as well. 8*)
Having been somewhat of a square peg equipped with large pockets full of sand to be strategically placed in the geartrain of annoying bureaucracy I've found that the earlier and the oftener a minor problem is brought to the forefront the more likely it is to receive attention.
Just like the oyster that minor irritant that is coated over eventually produces a pearl in the form of a solution to the problem. 8*)
BTW the ctl +key-key works in Firefox (my preference) but not in IE.
Your average eBloat user isn't even aware that Firefox exists so, as good as it is it can only be the secondary consideration when deciding how things are setup to run. It isn't fair but it's how the game is rigged. Another consideration is Safari. I don't know what the numbers look like for Apple in Europe but in North America they are taking significant market share as the Apple Laptop equipped college graduates are hitting the corporate workplace in increasing numbers ***and they won't switch to PCs***.
More things to think about folks.
BTW. I'm not throwing rocks, I'm gathering building materials because I REALLY want to see this place become a successful e-commerce site.

Must be a version and/or configuration issue. Ctrl+/Ctrl- zoom in/out works for me using IE 7.0.5730.11.

    Rock-throwing can bear fruit.

Also for me and has done for as long back as I can recall. The status bar at the bottom of the Explorer browser should also have the zoom control at far right.
