Thread: Shipping is calculated too high!

  1. #1

Question Shipping is calculated too high!

I'm new to ebid and have listed 3 auctions. But when I complete the listing (and I put in the actual weight of the item to be shipped) I am floored by the shipping costs! Why do they calculate so high? I know when I'm buying online, shipping cost is the 2nd thing I look at...How can we keep the costs low when the listings calculate them at such a high rate? Am I doing something wrong when I list? Shipping a 6 oz package to myself calculated to $15.70!!! Way off....I don't want my potential buyers seeing that. Can anyone enlighten me a little? I sure would appreciate it - Thanks!

I don't know the answer but others have complained of the same thing. I don't use the calculator, just figure the most it could cost to send within the US and have a note that I refund excess postage. That has been working for me but I am only a hobby seller.

Hi, I've been using the calculator and haven't had any problem. Perhaps you should send the item # to ebid support and have them look at it. They can either tell you what is wrong or probably fix it! Good luck!

Are you choosing the correct shipping method?

I use the www.usps.com website to check costs. As Jeweleffects asked, are you using the correct shipping type? Sounds like you hit express mail at $15 for a 6 ounce package.

I do exactly the same thing.

I've had sky-high shipping a few times, it was always due to a mistake on my part . . . 1 pound 6 ounces instead of 6 ounces . . . priority mail when I intended to enter First Class . . . selected "package" instead of "envelope" . . .

Not saying that's the cause of your problem, but I did find it was my error every time.

Also found out if I change anything in the shipping information, it sometimes takes a while to show up in the listing, so I don't panic anymore, just make a note to check the next day.

It sounds like you may have selected express shipping instead of first class. I have found the shipping calculator here pretty acurate on my listings. Hope this helps and welcome to Ebid.
