Default China & Pottery - top level cat?

Please can this move out of collectables to its own top level category? So much of what is available in that cat is not collectable but separating the collectables from the tableware can be arbitrary. It's larger than some top level cats and could be even bigger if people felt it had more exposure.

In particular, could China & Pottery be merged in this nice new top level category?

I've been asking for this forever. It was sort of promised when there were enough listings but it is never quite important enough to get done. I've been deliberately listing replacement china here for a while hoping that it could become an ebid niche. I've even sold some of it...

bumping this thread for further considerations. There are over 1000 china and pottery listings but only 372 baby items. And there is a serious category cross-over problem with this stuff. Do I list a dinner plate under antiques (if it is old), collectables or home - dining room? If it was a top level category it would be obvious.

top level category China and Ceramics would be my choice of title. Then a list of manufacturers as the next level with Other marked British, other Oriental, Other Continental and unmarked as catchall cats. The manufacturer categories can be subdivided as the number of listings demands - into tableware and collectables initially, but eventually further (as the site overtakes the market leader<grin>)

    How does that sound?

I was thinking more of moving and merging our current stucture to a top level.

I was going to leave this to Madelaine as she knows more about this stuff than I do,
but I was thinking more on your lines Gazza,
    merge existing
    Collectables - China & Porcelain
    with
    Collectables - Pottery
Antiques - Decorative Arts - China
Antiques - Decorative Arts - Pottery

I guess it would also help to pull any tableware & new/modern items
out of Home & Garden in a section
for modern items to be split into
    modern tableware
    modern ornamental
    modern other.

I think some of the Manufacturers might need to be split at some point & I know there have been some requests for other categories to be added or changed but that would need more input from the sellers of those items.

I think this makes sense. The category arrangement is very awkward and unnatural at the moment. At the very least China and Pottery should be merged. While we're at it, would it be possible to change Collectables/Kitchenware to Collectables/Kitchenalia. I don't know about others but I find kitchenware an ambiguous term. It makes me think of china and pottery more than anything!
