Thread: What is going on.

  1. #1

    Default What is going on.

I have just listed some more plants in the garden section. When I hit the sell button the first thing that I see is a banner saying 'SELL FASTER ON eBAY'. Great. Then I notice that when I look in my stores or auctions at the bottom of the lists there is a 'ads by Google' section listing up to twelve other sites selling similar items to myself. This seems to me to be a bit like Next putting a sign in there window saying 'Buy from River Island'. Crazy.

As if it is not hard enough getting sales on this site we have the competition advertising on our stores and auctions. This is ludicrous.

    What do others think.?

Hi, I understand what you're saying and fully agree with you, however, I'm not sure eBid has control over the ads in the ad feeds seen on-site. Anyone know for sure?

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Never thought of that before, good point Ugrow

Because eBid is using google who have content based ads ( Google read page text and displays ads best matching the text on the page ) it would not be great for a eBid sellers like yourself, For example someone selling electrical items and having google banner ads showing similar items for sale and linking to another e-commerce site.

There must be a way to mask the page content from Google ads.

    Keep listing on ebid!

You pay to list on ebay!
Here it's free and it's free every day.

Alternative sites such as ebid are eroding ebays status just like acid rain dripping on sandstone.

I have used Google Adwords myself and I think you can have some influence over what companies can advertise on your site.

But it is a hell of a lot of work.

Google Adwords is the worst program and interface I have ever seen.

Of course if you click on it, it costs ebay some money and earns ebid some money.
(But that practice is frowned upon by Google)

But it does take you off site!

I know that it is free to list on here but free is no good without sales. I also list on eB*y and although I have to pay , pay, pay I am getting the sales. 60 last month, 27 last week. Much as I would like to have the same sales over here and kick eB*y into touch it is not possible at the moment. Advertising other peoples similar products is not going to help.

Who said you have to kick the bay into touch?

I list on free listing days - but I also continue to list as much as I can on ebid - Ebid, I believe is the future where you have bought your stake! IE the lifetime seller plus account.

Given that ammount of freedom (no listing fees, 5 stores etc etc) for £49.99 , it looks like a bargain.

It's up to the users of ebid and not the owners to advertise and promote the site. It's up to the users to build up the listings, to attract and encourage others to join ebid.

No ammount of advertising by ebay will stop the decline in their fortunes - There are new kids on the block and those kids are growing up fast!

I normally agree with you Pink, but I cant agree that it up to us to advertise ebid.
    Its their business not ours.
