Question on Gmail

It is a difficult business avoiding being tracked.

I use duckduckgo.com instead google for searching and that saves a raft of spam.
I use my own domain for mail instead of gmail, and that gives my content some invisibility. A problem on IPad, still haven't been able to format my partner's IPad4 to send messages on any platform other than gmail.

My belief, and hope I am right, is that the problem is mainly targetting sales, and not a grand conspiracy to know everyone's secrets. So the level is annoyance rather than fear of big brother control.

There are tabs across the top: Primary, Social, Promotions. I think you are looking for Promotions? I liked it better before they did that. Old and set in my ways.

That's the whole problem...I don't have those across the top. What I have is:

A Gmail icon on the far left with a tiny drop down which has Gmail/Contacts/Tasks; then (reading across from left to right) Back, Archive, Spam, Delete, Move To, Labels, and More. I don't see anything like Primary, Social, Promotions, etc.

Help, please!

Have you upgraded your account recently? I don't remember for sure when but it just changed to this version fairly recently and I think it did it automatically. You might want to contact Google support.

Don't forget that Google is cooperating with the USA security services to spy on us all.

When I check for my G+/Chrome updates it states:
Version 30.0.1599.69 m
Google Chrome is up to date.

As for Google Support...I've never had any luck with getting a response....sigh....

I don't have Google Chrome. Just gmail. I've no idea if that makes a difference.

I just had a look at OH's google mail. Top of the inbox just above the first email are 3 boxes: Primay, social, and promotions. I don't think he ever noticed them as the promotions box had over 50 emails in it

Go to the little GEAR icon - top right - then click on 'configure'. You should be able to get the tabs then.
