Thread: Search not working

  1. #11

Just tried again and still not working. I am using IE7. I've bought what I was looking for elsewhere now, but it would have been nice to see if anyone was selling it here.

I've not had any problems with any other websites today. I've just had my computer reloaded, but all the microsoft updates have been run across it, so it is up to date.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised. After a MS update preventing anyone running ZoneAlarm firewall accessing the internet at all recently I wouldn't put anything past them.

Running XP SP3 if that ties in with anyone else having problems. Where's the OP gone?

Don't know where to look next. I have a reformat and reinstall planned but keep putting it off as it is not a task I enjoy.
I'm running XP pro with SP2, could it be something to do with SP3?
I don't usually install a SP until they've had a few months (or years) to iron out the glitches.

I alwys work on the principle if it ain't broke don't fix it, and I apply that to operating system upgrades as well.

I don't know but it seems a possibility. I did look at removing SP3 but it threw up so many warnings I chickened out.

eBid should try accessing the system themselves using a Windows XP SP3 system and find out. I have not seen any problems anywhere else it is specifically with eBid.

If it is a Windows problem then MS are unlikely to fix Windows to work with eBid so a workaround by eBid would need to be looked for.

If they don't then they risk losing potential customers. Someone coming new to eBid is unlikely to faff about trying to find out why it doesn't work for them. They will just move on.

What operating system are you using and what is its update state?

I'm running Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.

If we match on that then it could point towards the culprit.

    Exclamation

Just had a look at what appears in the address bar following the same search carried out in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Results as follows:

    Code:

    IE: http://uk.ten.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?go=1&mo=search&category=&type=keyword&words=mug&categoryid=
    FF: http://uk.ten.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?go=1&mo=search&category=&type=keyword&words=mug&categoryid=&go.x=18&go.y=13

    IE: http://uk.nine.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?go=1&mo=search&category=&type=keyword&words=card&categoryid=
    FF: http://uk.nine.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?go=1&mo=search&category=&type=keyword&words=card&categoryid=&go.x=28&go.y=17
It looks like IE is truncating the search string. A buffer size problem somewhere?

I have got windows service pack 3, so it looks like it's that. I'm not experiencing any problems with any other websites.

It's weird how it is claiming that you haven't put enough in the search criteria, but the search words do show in the right hand side search box, although clicking on the search there doesn't work either.

If they don't then they risk losing potential customers. Someone coming new to eBid is unlikely to faff about trying to find out why it doesn't work for them. They will just move on.
..exactly. I won't be installing any other internet browsers just so that I can search in eBid, so I'll just have to miss out on any baragins for now!

I'm running XP Pro SP3 no problems for me.

Just tried searching using my work PC (SP2) and it works fine here. I've already bought what I was trying to search for, though, so don't want anything now!
