Thread: Suggestion: Don't add blank after '.' in auction titles

  1. #1

Angry Blanks added after '-./' every time [was:Don't add blank after '.' in auction titles]

    Gazza,

Please can the processing that adds blanks after '.' in titles be removed?

When you want to include sizes, like "4.5cm", in a title, something jumps in and changes it to "4. 5cm". This is usually just annoying, but when you want to put the maximum amount of information in the title, this extra blank can cause the title to be truncated.

I agree, it ruins auction titles and makes them hard to search for. Gazza did explain a few months ago the reason, but I didn't understand it then and probably wouldn't understand it now!

    Gazza,

I've found 2 threads from May and August 2006 on the same topic, and I don't understand what "screen stretching" is either!. The links are:

    http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=86536
    http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=84625

I would like to be able to put extra info like sizes in my titles, but "7. 5cm" just looks ridiculous and unprofessional! Isn't there a way to program the title pre-processing to allow this sort of use for sizes, prices, or other specific uses that are not "screen stretching"?

    Please?

Can you not just put 4½cm?

Unfortunately bluebedouin I don't think it is possible to put half ( written as a fraction in the listings). I may be wrong, but I've tried to put them in my listings, it comes out as 1/2; instead of 1 over 2. I hope someone can prove me wrong though.

Personally I think it would help if we could have longer titles. I have problems getting the information in to them that I would like to.

Also, while we're on the topic, could the number of characters allowed in listing titles be increased by two or three characters?

    bluebedouin,

    You are a star!! Thanks.

Now I just have to edit all my auction titles. :-)

BTW FYI "1/2" is affected like "0.5", as they appear in the title as "1/ 2" and "0. 5" respectively!!

    Thanks again.........hollandnumerics
